Night Drive

Night Drive. Drive.

City lights are drifting by
Like stars that never touched the sky
Taxi hums a lullaby
While strangers dream ten floors high
I’m not lost, but not quite found
Just chasing nothing on my own

Tell the driver not to stop
Let the silence gently drop
This motion keeps the dark away
I’m not ready for the day

Night drive, nowhere left to be
No one’s waiting up for me
I watch the world from tinted glass
While empty streets and hours pass
No map, no aim, just night’s exile
Just one more mile and mile and mile and mile.

We slow down, I raise my head
A thousand stories left unsaid
Every light a different life
Kids asleep, a couple fights
A desk lamp burns at half past three
I wonder if they feel like me

Tell the driver not to stop
Let the silence gently drop
This motion keeps the dark away
I’m not ready for the day

Night drive, nowhere left to be
No one’s waiting up for me
I watch the world from tinted glass
While empty streets and hours pass
No map, no aim, just night’s exile
Just one more mile and mile and mile and mile.

Night drive, nowhere left to be
No one’s waiting up for me
I watch the world from tinted glass
While empty streets and hours pass
No map, no aim, just night’s exile
Just one more mile and mile and mile and mile.
